Rails Along the Zhujiang
A westbound tram approaches the aptly-named Party Pier station along the Pearl River. The Guangzhou Tram is one of the newest tram lines in China. The initial 7.7km Haizhu Line segment was opened in January 2015. Power is provided by supercapacitors on board the trams which are charged quickly (between 10-30 seconds) at station stops. This allows for the cars to operate over a well-manicured grassy right-of-way, uncluttered by cantenary poles and wires. At right is the Pearl River brewery which is adjacent to the "Party Pier". This relatively new stop serves both the brewery (where public tours are available) and a cluster of new bars and restaurants. |
