Remarks & Notes |
The crepe myrtles are in full bloom in Ashland, Virginia as a group of locals watch a steam double header roll south on the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac. Several of them are covering their ears in response to the loud steam whistles, but their hands may soon move to their eyes as they experience the joys of a cinder bath from two coal-burning locomotives. Barely visible behind Savannah & Atlanta’s auxiliary tank is the nose of Norfolk & Western 611. |
