BNSF leads a Z-train from South Seattle to Chicago around the loop at Trinidad, WA. Z-trains had been dropped due to inability of BNSF to keep schedules in 2015 due to oil, coal and grains train increases coupled with maintenance issues. However, by fall Z trains were restored, and unfortunately, the bulk commodity business took quite a drop. Z trains are currently the most likely train to spot on the Stevens Pass line in Washington state.
