In the mid -1960s, the Union Pacific’s Nebraska mainline suddenly blossomed with run-through power from almost a dozen different railroads. On October 2, 1966, for example, UP DD35A 80 leads a quartet of Norfolk & Western GP35’s and 40’s westbound toward North Platte with a pool train, probably out of Kansas City. Also common along these busy rails is a rainbow of power from C&NW, Milwaukee, Frisco, Burlington, Rock Island, Illinois Central, Western Pacific and Southern Pacific.
