Passing through Orange, California, is Amtrak Pacific Surfliner #768. This train originated in Goleta, near Santa Barbara, but when it arrived in Los Angeles, a second train set - with two private cars - was added for the trip to San Diego. So what had been a seven-car train swelled to a twelve-car train! F59PHI 462 in on the point, followed by four Surfliner cars and a former Superliner repainted into Surfliner colors, a pair of Surfliner cab cars, two Superliners, another Surfliner car, two privately owned cars (RPCX 800604 "Silver Splendor" and RPCX 800693 "Tioga Pass") and F59PHI 455. Once in San Diego, the train will be split up again, with the short section returning to Los Angeles (with the locomotive on the north end, unusual for this line) and the other seven car train returning as train #579. The shorter section lays over in San Diego and departs at 6:50 pm as train 591. The longer trains are needed to handle crowds attending both San Diego's ComicCon and those taking in the ponies at the Del Mar Racetrack.

just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
