A special for the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission, consisting of Union Pacific Dash 8-40CW 9386 and seven cars, heads west through Walnut, California, on January 10th, 1992. LACTC was successful in passing two half cent sales taxes for transportation improvements in southern California, which facilitated the construction of light rail, heavy rail (Metrolink), HOV/Carpool lanes, busways, soundwalls, bicycle facilities and park-n-ride facilities. Metrolink would begin service on October 26th, 1992, and this Union Pacific line would become Metrolink's Riverside Line, connecting Riverside with downtown Los Angeles.
