On Kanawha River Railroad's (KNWA) first day of operation, they were off to busy start with switching the yard at Dickinson, one northbound qualifying run to Pt. Pleasant, WV and picked up a few cars, ran a northbound chemical train and a southbound loaded coal train with NS power and as many people as they could fit to qualify them for the line.
The KNWA leased several Norfolk Southern locomotives for coal service as seen here passing the Mammoth Coal Processing Plant across the river from West Montgomery with their first loaded coal train headed for Maben, WV.
