| As the coastal marine layer begins to retreat back towards the Pacific Ocean the morning sun warms the rolling golden hills along California's scenic central coast. Within this picturesque setting the rails of Southern Pacific's famous 'Coast Line' leave the floor of the San Luis Valley to assault the hills on their climb to Santa Margarita, CA. Carefully drifting down the formidable Cuesta Grade and into San Luis Obispo an eastbound Union Pacific auto train slips across Stenner Creek trestle as its train highlights the snake like curves leaving the Goldtree horseshoe. Although not the freight artery it was years ago under the Southern Pacific, the 'coast' still hosts a few of successor Union Pacific's trains per week. |
