The Mojave Desert is a vast area with typical desert vegetation - sparse and low. However, for railfans, this provides long views that makes it hard for the trains to "hide." On February 3, 2014, BNSF Railway train S-PTRLHA5-31A - Intermodal Stacks traveling from Port Arthur TX to Los Angeles Harbor Pier 400 - crosses this "barren*" landscape behind a trio of General Electric diesels: ES44C4 6659, Dash 9-44CW 4136 and ES44DC 7441. Just about three miles away is Interstate 40, and approximately 6 or 7 miles beyond that are the Providence Mountains.
