After waiting on the east leg while CSX MOW crews work on correcting an issue with the crossovers at KV Cabin, local J14 is on the move across the CSX mainline with a string of loaded hopper cars for transfer to the SunCoke KRT terminal across town. After the rear end of this train passes through, MOW will pick an EC1 back up to continue working on the switches, with as much time as they need without a train in sight... Compare this sight to 50 years ago, and the scene would be drastically different. Kenova Yard was once a bustling little yard for local freight, with dozens upon dozens of coal trains passing through along with N&W trains accessing the numerous coal docks along the Ohio River, not to mention several passenger trains stopping at the double decker passenger station behind us. Fast forward to today, and this once vital artery of the Chesapeake & Ohio now sees two passenger trains, four time freights, and a handful of locals, coal moves, and the occasional grain train.
