Remarks & Notes |
The first southbound Sounder is crossing the historic Milwaukee Road S-Turn trestle on its way to the Tacoma Dome Station (aka Freighthouse Square). Just to the right you can see the arch enemy of history: Progress. In the form of a new concrete double track bridge in the early stages of construction. Within 18 months this scene will look much different. Gone will be the trestle and the former Milwaukee Road freight house (Tacoma Dome Station) will have a new passenger station constructed in its mid-section, along with a new platform. Off in the background is the former Sounder coach yard, now located in Lakewood, and the line across the Puyallup river to Tacoma Rail. Tacoma Rail still runs freight trains across the trestle several times a week. |
