Remarks & Notes
Hello Georgous!

The Handy Dandy Railroad, encircling the Denton FarmPark, did a "dandy" job restoring High Point, Thomasville & Denton 70-ton 202 to her nearly "as delivered" appearance. This beautiful little GE diesel was built in January 1948, and sat in derelict shape for years in Laurinburg, NC, before being rescued. If only more decrepit engines could be restored so nicely! (For those keeping score at home, the lineage of this engine is ex-Franklin County (FCYR) 105, ex-Laurinburg & Southern (LRS) 105, nee-High Point, Thomasville & Denton 202.). “Nearly as delivered” is because LRS 105 was wrecked in a grade crossing accident (with a truck) and rebuilt around 1975 using the radiator section from a later model 70-ton engine that had the front radiator grill; this detail actually makes the restoration of HPT&D 202 incorrect, as 202 had the earlier flat hood front when new. Still, it is an impressive looking locomotive. (Denton, North Carolina - October 18, 2008)
