Remarks & Notes
Phoenixes of the Thoroughbred

Eastbound coal train NS 776 darts through the quiet town of Prichard, West Virginia, crossing over Elijah Creek with two of Norfolk Southern's newest rebuilds on the point. These units are part of a pilot project by NS to extend the life of their aging 20+ year old fleet of DC standard cab Dash 9's, by rebuilding them both in-house as well as by General Electric at their Erie Locomotive Works. The DC-to-AC conversion project has been a success so far, with some Dash 9's being rebuilt with new GE wide cabs, new electrical systems, PTC systems, and of course new AC traction motors. The leader, NS 4002 was rebuilt at Norfolk Southern's Roanoke,VA locomotive shop and sports a nifty Tuscan Red "mane" paint scheme, while the trailing unit was rebuilt by General Electric themselves and sports the standard Norfolk Southern paint scheme.

A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
