Remarks & Notes |
The section Finse - Hallingskeid on the Bergen line once was a critical part of the line. Running over a wild mountain pass the line was covered on most parts with snow sheds. Even then it was a fight to keep the line open during the winter times. In the 1990ies the line was upgraded and the most vulnerable stretch of the line was replaced through the new Finse tunnel. This 10.5km long tunnel replaced the pass section and lowered the highest point of the line from 1301m to 1222m.
Here we are at the western end of the new stretch. A Regiontog with El 18 #2249 crosses the newly built dam which drives directly into the new Finse tunnel. Behind the train the old line is visible splitting from the new one at the snow shed in the background. |
