Remarks & Notes |
Milwaukee Road SD40-2s 157 and 136 were on helper duty out of Kittitas, WA in August 1978. On this date the crew is just returning to the depot after dropping off Extra 24 West which it helped up Boyleston Hill from Beverly at the Columbia River. That climb was Milwaukee's ruling grade in Washington state for westbound trains. It is interesting that their superb engineering permitted these helpers to be dropped prior to climbing Snoqualmie Pass west of Kittitas. Milwaukee also used radio controlled master/slave sets in this territory. |
