A pair of rebuilt General Electric U26Cs, KiwiRail 5356 and 5304, lead the daily Tranz Alpine Express passenger train toward the Lake Brunner depot at Moana, New Zealand, on October 21, 2016. Notice the laundry hanging out to dry on this nice breezy spring day!
Trains on 3' 6" (1.067m) track from Whangarei to Bluff with virtually heritage rebuilt EMD and GE locomotives still the mainstay power. The network was privatized in 1990's and operated by Toll until 2008 when state owned KiwiRail was established.
