A long string of double-stacked containers heads west and passes through Sabinal, Texas, on October 28, 2016. Union Pacific AC4400CW 7009 and ES44AC 8151 are in charge - and the ratty-looking 7009 has an interesting history. This locomotive was built by GE in March 1997 as to serve as warranty protection units for service on UP; painted in full UP Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Grey with red GECX letters and numbered GECX 4009. When the warranty protection period ended, these ten engines (GECX 4000 through 4009) were purchased by UP (on January 30, 1998), renumbered 7000 to 7009, and added to the railroad's massive locomotive fleet.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
