Remarks & Notes
This is opening day at the top of the pass. The railroad begins the tourist season in Chama. There were lots of festivities before the start of the trip. The train runs from May 25th to October 20th. The Combres & Toltec Railroad is 64 miles of what once was the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railway. It was built in 1870 on narrow gauge tracks due to the rough terrain and many turns required to make the climb from 7,280 feet to 10,013 feet.
