"Falls of the Quinebaug"
Here is the aerial version of the same train that Michael William Sullivan captured going away in THIS spectacular image.
Two modern GE's lead a power car and 6 passenger cars on what was the last ever passenger train operated by an independent P&W as the sale to G&W was to become effective in two short days.
This particular trip was operated by the Mass Bay RRE and ran from Worcester to Groton on the P&W Norwich main (70 miles), then down Amtrak's Shoreline to Old Saybrook (20 miles), where steam power took over for a trip to the old New Haven Valley Line to north of Haddam, CT (13 miles) for a grand total round trip of over 210 miles. Here we see the train as it has just exited the Taft Tunnel southbound and is passing the falls at Northeast Utilities, Tunnel Hydroelectric station.
