Viewed from the Tilghman Street/Union Boulevard bridge in Allentown, Pennsylvania, an eastbound Conrail train approaches Allentown yard from Lehighton and points beyond. The truss bridge in the background, unused for years, was once part of the Allentown Terminal Railroad Company, a three mile line providing access to Allentown’s joint passenger station that served the Jersey Central and the Reading. Starting at East Penn Junction on the Reading, the Allentown Terminal proceeded geographically north to the CNG/RDG station. Reading service ended at the station, but CNJ trains to Wilkes-Barre continued on the Allentown Terminal pest Tilghman Street to a point where it crossed the Lehigh Valley Railroad and the Lehigh River on the bridge seen here, connecting with the CNJ at WK interlocking.
