| DFB7239 roars away from Kaikoura with the south-bound 'Coastal Pacific,' crossing over Whaleway Station Road (...yes, it goes to the railway station and the whale watching centre) and the main street. Three weeks later this region was devastated by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake, severely damaging the railway north of here. At the time of writing The Coastal Pacific has been cancelled for the remainder of its summer season, and repairs to reopen the railway are expected to take as long as 12 months. |
