Taking a look back through the archives after seeing this unit a week ago (Nov. 26, 2016), I stumbled upon some of my first quality shots of the JDHX 50 way back in 2011 that I had previously thought were lost on another hard drive. On this cool morning in the Central Valley, the unit was working a cut of 25 loaded hoppers through the J.D. Heiskell & Co. facility following the arrival of a 100-car, BNSF grain train earlier in the week. Built in March of 1957, originally built SD9 first saw service on the Nickle Plate Railroad as NKP 342. Some 59 years later and after seeing service on both the Norfork & Western and Norfork Southern, the veteran SD9M now serves the J.D. Heiskell & Co. at their Guernsey, Calif., facility.
