Montana Rail Link’s gas local parallels a frozen Flathead River just east of Paradise, Montana, on February 9, 2014. Three vintage EMDs power the eastbound train through the frigid landscape. Lead locomotive is MRL 290, a former Great Northern (321) SDP40, while trailing are two SD40s; former Chicago and North Western (891) No. 263, and No. 258 from the Colorado and Southern (877). All were rebuilt by the capable Livingston Shops and are now labeled SD40-2XR by MRL.
