2016 was the year for NS Heritage units on the Chesapeake Western. Seen here, the second heritage unit to date on the CW, Central of Georgia is awaiting track warrant to take its 78 grain empties to the NS yard in Shenandoah. The ES44AC units are deemed to powerful to do short line switch work and are only worthy of pulling the grain trains up CW's steep grades. Therefore when heritage units come to the home rails of the CW, they are tucked away in a secluded siding waiting for the entire grain train to be unloaded. Which heritage unit will be next N&W, Southern, Virginian, Nickel Plate...?

July 5, 1895 CW moved its first load of freight and although its existence is merely on paper today, its roots run deep. 129 years and still moving freight. The CW operates as a subsidiary of Norfolk Southern.
