Amtrak #5, bound for Newport News, is finally pulling into the Williamsburg station 1.5 hours late, due to a broken rail in Richmond. This is my first ever Amtrak picture and train (Amtrak) ride. An anniversary gift to me from my wife was to catch the train from VA beach to Williamsburg and return on the next train. We have rode many scenic train rides and this was quite a modern day adventure. While this was a "Joy" ride for my wife and myself, I found out quickly that this was just a normal way for the other folks on the train to get from one place to another. Some passengers appeared to be students on their way home from college while other passengers were traveling to visit family members for Christmas. The affordability of owning your own car today may have drastically changed the way people travel (less) on trains compared to the days of steam, I found myself eager and willing to ditch family car and leave the driving to Amtrak while I lay my head back and "rock to the rhythm of the gentle beat of the rails beneath my feet." Many thanks to my Sweetness for yet another great train adventure.
