Remarks & Notes |
A close call and a case where the story is better than the photo. Under pending darkness and with light snow falling the crew onboard CN 5244 sounds the bell and then lays on the horn for the road crossing beginning to pull the 138 loads of taconite pellets after getting the signals from CN RTC. The crossing gates activate and the arms begin to fall. A minivan comes along screeching and sliding sideways on the snow covered road just missing the crossing gates coming to rest on the tracks. The train crew goes into emergency while the woman jumps out of the minivan panicking. She looks around and then manages to get her minivan unstuck and off the tracks then back on the road and speeds off. The crew calls back to RTC to report what just happened and gets the go ahead to return to Proctor with the 138 loads of United Taconite pellets. After getting underway again the crew calls the T-Bird that was waiting for them and asked if the just saw what had happened. After a short discussion between the two it was back to business as usual. Everybody goes home safe tonight. |
