A loaded coal train bound for Texas is working hard up the 1% grade on the Twin Peaks Sub. The train is currently near MP 241 between Barela and Trinchere. The Twin peaks Sub runs from Trinidad, CO, to Amarillo, TX. BNSF started running directional running with these coal trains sometime in the 2000's. The grades on this line were pretty serve in places making it require alot of power for heavy trains. Now mainly westbound use this route, and loaded coal trains go via LaJunta, CO, down the Boise City Sub, on the old Santa Fe.
