A loaded coal train bound for Texas is working hard up the 1% grade on the Twin Peaks Sub near Abeyta. The train is currently near MP 241 between Barela and Trinchere. The Twin Peaks Sub runs from Trinidad, CO, to Amarillo, TX. BNSF started running directional running with these coal trains around 2003. As you can see this subdivision outside of Trinidad has some tough terrain to work over making for some steep grades. Trains usually have plenty of horsepower and have some pretty slow going. Now mainly westbound use this route, and loaded coal trains go via La Junta, CO, down the Boise City Sub, on the old Santa Fe.
