A pair of EMD's move UP Train YFX82 21 down the Omaha Main on the UP KC Metro Sub. The leader exhibits an uncommon and early variation of the UP lightning stripe paint scheme, in that the color separation line is the previous height on the rear of the EMD long hood (a foot lower than on most lightning stripe units like the SD70M's being delivered within this time frame), which means the bottom part of the stripe in front of the zigzag falls below the cab window and extends all the way to the front of the nose.
Obviously there was some tweaking done and subsequent repaints of the UP's North Little Rock Jenks Shop usually featured higher red stripes at the front and back of units, such as the recently repainted trailing unit.
I enjoy seeing these, and to be honest with you I think I might even prefer it this way. There's almost too much yellow on a standard painted unit in my opinion.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
