Passenger special Amtrak Train #952 is making its way north through the KC West Bottoms at Old Union Depot Interlocking on Track 81 of the KCT North-South Corridor, on a normally freight only portion of the railroad. It was interesting to see Illinois Central Painted passenger cars at this location, which historically was the north end of the GM&O, and later ICG's 12th Street Yard. Even though equipment in this paint scheme never rolled through here in revenue service that I'm aware of, the trees on the left are rooted in dirt once owned by the ICG.
The Iowa Pacific Holdings High Iron Travel rare mileage special is in day 4, and the final leg of its journey. The special started out in St. Louis the preceding Friday morning, and operated into Memphis, Springfield, MO, and Kansas City on the past three evenings, almost exclusively on the former Frisco Railway. Today is the last day of the trip, and the train will take former CB&Q trackage to West Quincy, MO.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
