Ex-Cons on the Run
A trio of ex-Conrail SD60Is leads a empty PPLX unit train down the Nittany & Bald Eagle Railroad towards Tyrone. This stretch of railroad began life as the Bald Eagle Valley Railroad (a PRR subsidiary) and was sold off by Conrail in the early 1980s to the Susquehanna Economic Development Authority Council of Governments Joint Rail Authority--that's a mouthful! --(SEDA-COG JRA) and placed under operating contract with the North Shore System's Nittany & Bald Eagle Railroad. The line became somewhat famous to railfans in 1987-88 thanks to a certain 4-6-2. |
