This former Cotton Belt unit came into town from UP Leeds Yard in Kansas City on UP Train MLETN 25, and will head back tomorrow on the MTNLE 28, and soaks up the sun after a line of severe thunderstorms moved through the area.
This unit was built as a GP60 SSW 9668 in 3-1990, builder and frame number 896003-4. It was renumbered to UP 1971 when repainted on 10-1-02, and renumbered UP 1052 on 11-25-13, and was reclassed as a GP62 in January 2015. Basically all a GP62 entails is a TIR (Track Image Recorder) and ditch lights on the rear end allowing it to run long hood forward with ease. Union Pacific has been doing the same thing to SD60's in the fleet assigned to yard and local service.
