NS 65M sits tied down in Norfolk Southern's North Winston Yard awaiting a fresh crew to take the train up the "Pumpkin Vine" to Roanoke. In the lead are two of Electro-Motive/Progress Rail SD70ACe-T4 demonstrator units, numbered 1607 and 1608. These units are equipped with EMD's new 12-cylinder 1010J rated at 4,400 traction horsepower. Once these units complete their demonstration tour of North America's biggest railroads, they will be sent back to Muncie, IN where they will have their EMDX decals replaced with UP decals, renumbered, have any Union Pacific-specific equipment installed, and sent back to the UP.
