Remarks & Notes
A pair of Ex-UP SD40M-2's power a heavy MNA Train KCMNA 09 climbing Independence Hill on the UP Sedalia Sub. at Wilson Road. Engineer Tim Whitworth and Conductor Stew Jacobs have the movement well in hand as it grinds up the hill in notch 8.

The lead unit was built as an DRGW 5338, an EMD SD45 during 3-1968, builder number 33932, frame number 7106-2. After over 2 decades on the Rio Grande, it was sold to MK and rebuilt for the Southern Pacific as an SD40M-2, completed on 12-9-1994 as SP 8684. The engine went to the Union Pacific with the merger in 1996, and was renumbered UP 2760 on 1-28-2004. Most of these units were stored in 2008-2009, and a modest group were sold to RailAmerica in 2012. This one was numbered MNA 2760 when the group was distributed among RA, and later Genesee & Wyoming Properties.

The trailing unit was built in 1-1968 as an EMD SD45 PRR 6230, builder number 33854, frame number 7993-51. A month later the unit became Penn Central property after the merger with NYC, later renumbered PC 6230, and then to Conrail in 1976 as CR 6230. The unit was later sold to the Chicago & North Western as CNW 6553. It was sold to VMV Paducah, KY as VMV 6553, and later sold to MK and rebuilt as a Southern Pacific SD40M-2 as SP 8652, completed on 9-21-1994. To the Union Pacific at merger in 1996, it became UP 2728 on 5-16-2005. Stored during 2008-2009, it was sold along with many of its sister units to RailAmerica in 2012 not long before the G&W merger, and assigned MNA 2728.
