1250 was built at Hillside, Dunedin in 1949. The locomotive certification was extended several weeks to allow 1250 to participate in a couple of events including the Festival of Steam today at Glenbrook Vintage Railway. To renew operational certification requires funds beyond current resources of the railway so it could be many years before this locomotive can roam the rails again.
Railway Enthusiasts Society has operated rail excursions around NZ since 1958, some steam hauled using rolling stock from Glenbrook Vintage Railway which it established in 1970's near Auckland. See www.railfan.org.nz
