The legendary rotary snowplows have returned to Donner Pass. California has been hammered with numerous storms this winter. All of these storms have wreaked havoc across the Donner Pass Route. From washouts to feet of snow piling up on the main tracks, it has been a struggle for Union Pacific to keep this line open. Snow fighting crews utilized flanger and spreader sets all winter long, but it was time for the last resort. The rotaries were called to plow the deep snowbanks that lined the right of way.
