The "Charge" at Lynn Camp
This is the climb for Raitt tunnel, also known as the Home Creek Grade. This ex. N&W branch lies deep in the heart of Central Appalachian Coal Country. NS8880 built in 1995 leads the charge up the 1.7-1.8% climb at Lynn Camp, Virginia. Stormy weather and fog add to the drama as this coal train climbs one of the steepest grades in the east... the long coal drag had 3 big AC pushers on the rear...What a show!... |
