Thirteen feet of snow has fallen across Donner Pass this season, making 2017 the third snowiest winter in recorded history (according to up.com). With the Feather River Route closed for months due to massive washouts, Donner Pass has been a vital artery for east/west rail traffic in Northern California. The flangers and spreaders have done a great job keeping the UP Roseville Subdivision open for most of the winter, but on February 25th, 2017, Union Pacific called in the big guns. SPMW 207 catches a bit of sunshine as it works up the #2 track at Norden. Soon the rotaries will enter the Norden Snowshed and reverse back along the #1 track, cutting back the massive snowbank.
