Times are tough in fall 1982, and Milwaukee Road was storing some of their locomotives. Here we have 7 GP20Ms parked at Pigs Eye Yard not far from the roundhouse area. These Geeps were rebuilt from early GP9s by the MILW. The 996 was rebuilt in Sept. 1969. Milwaukee was famous for renumbering their locos, and this was the third unit to carry 996. It was also used on an RSC-2 and a Whitcomb 44 tonner.
