During the evening of March 6th a line of strong thunderstorms ahead of a cold front pushed thru Missouri with straight line winds and tornadoes. Strong winds ended up knocking over this stopped Q-train west of Mendon causing a major mess for the BNSF. The Marceline Sub was brought to a halt for roughly 24 hours while cleanup was done to the main around MP 366.
Around 10 trains were able to detour via between the Bucklin and KC on the Brookfield Sub. The BNSF has a northwest connection between the Brookfield Sub and the Marceline Sub at Bucklin. Lack of qualified crews and capacity (stored cars on sidings) limited the detours. So only hot trains and Amtrak were detoured during the 24 hour cleanup.
Hulcher ended up putting the containers on the southside of the tracks, and the double stack wells went to the northside. One 3-packer stayed up right and was moved to Bosworth for inspection.
