Remarks & Notes
Western Maryland 6 switches its photo freight prior to departure during the 1981 Cass Railfan weekend. The big Shay has left a trail of steam and smoke over the track that curves past the engine house and up the mountain to Bald Knob. Today’s excursion will not be climbing the mountain, however, as the tracks need to be upgraded to handle such a large locomotive. Instead, the trip will take the tracks to the right, traveling along the Greenbrier over the former C&O branch to Durbin.
