Remarks & Notes |
The Heart Of Georgia's Vidalia Turn wakes up the small rural sleepy central Georgia town of Rochelle shortly after 2AM on it's return trip back west with the Stack Train. This former Seaboard Air Line route laid dormant for nearly twenty years between Rochelle and Vidalia, Georgia until the HOG and Georgia Central began the intermodal operation between Cordele and Savannah in late 2011. This scene will soon see some drastic changes as GWi has taken control of the HOG, the official operations changeover takes effect in April 2017. The HOG as we've come to know it is in it's final days of independence. The Ocilla Southern crossed here at Rochelle which there isn't much evidence of today and the L shaped depot was a Union Depot. OS built from Fitzgerald northwad to Rochelle in 1914. In 1917 OS extended from Rochelle north to Pope City, in 1923 the line was abandoned. |
