Remarks & Notes
This publicity photo of The 400 was taken for the C&NW Public Relations Dept. most likely around September 1939 when the streamlined train was first inaugurated. I was able to make a copy photo of an original print when I worked for CNW in Chicago in 1974. This view is taken just out of the Great Northern Station in Minneapolis on the Mississippi River crossing, the famous Stone Arch Bridge which was also used by GN and CB&Q for PR shots. The 400 operated via Eau Claire, Adams and Milwaukee providing mid-day departures from Minneapolis and Chicago with early evening arrivals at destination terminals. By comparison MILW and CBQ had early morning and mid afternoon departures.
