Remarks & Notes |
Rare Hudson Line freight. Due to work at the connection between the Carman and Hudson Subs in South Schenectady, the West Albany and Troy locals detoured over the west end of Amtrak's Hudson Line on Friday March 24th. Here is the West Albany Yard to South Schenectady turn job returning EB to West Albany after having run from South Schenectady out to Amsterdam to run around it's train. Freight traffic on the former New York Central Water Level Route from CP -160 (Schenectady station) to CP-169 (CSX Mohawk Sub connection) has been on an exception only basis since Conrail closed Sand Bank Yard (just across this bridge in Scotia) in 1978. Originally the main NYC route across New York State, these tracks lost most freight traffic when the Selkirk bypass was built in the late 1920's. The remaining local traffic was lost in 1978 when Sand Bank Yard was closed. |
