In the late 1970’s, the Delaware and Hudson repainted a lot of their units in one of several variants of a solid blue with yellow highlights paint scheme. Whether it was poor paint prep or inferior paint, many of these repaints did not wear well, as seen on this RS11, with much of its original lightning stripe paint showing. The former Lehigh Valley was repainted into the lightning stripe scheme in the same era, but doesn’t seem to be exhibiting the same issue.
