NS U48, an ex-Interstate Railroad mine run, turns on the wye at Appalachia on NS's Clinch Valley Extension. After turning, U48 will shove 5 empties along the ex-IRR's Appalachia-Norton main line to the Blackwood No. 1 loader at Blackwood, Virginia. The crew will pull the remaining 30 empties back to Kent Junction and along the ex-IRR's Pardee Branch to the Roaring Fork loader, located at the end of the Pardee Branch. The view is from the back porch of a caboose that typically sat in Appalachia to aid crews in shoving empty unit trains along the ex-L&N's Appalachia-Norton main line for loading at the Paragon loadout near Kelly View, Virginia.
