Today there is a public Open Day at Polmadie depot, Glasgow. In connection with this, a thirteen-coach private charter train has run up to Glasgow. I have just alighted from it, having travelled from Stafford overnight. Recreating a scene from the 1970s when pairs of 50's were rostered power for express passenger trains on the London-Glasgow route, preserved pair D431 and D449 rest 'on the blocks' in the early morning after a fault-free journey. Later in the day, the return south will be equally impressive. A day to remember!
