The night silence with only the sound of owls calling and water trickling is briefly broken by a mix of EMD and General Electric locomotives and squeaky flanges as New England Central Railroad train 324-24 glides along Mud Pond, near Roxbury, VT, in the wee hours of April 25. The 324 is led by NECR SD40-2 (SD40 carbody and ex-NECR/CR/PC 6281) 3405 and PW B40-8W 4007 as the fog begins to form and the horizon is tainted green by the Aurora Borealis. All would be quiet again in a few moments as the 324 headed south for its next stop in White River Junction. Note: The PWRZ on the 4007 has finally been shortened to just PW... |
