Classic GE
On a cold early February morning, NS 164 (New Orleans,LA-Chattanooga,TN) is holding back from the Wauhatchie Pike road crossing on the most northern point on the NS AGS North-End, due to the heavy Memphis East-End train traffic trying to enter and depart Chattanooga on the double track main just ahead. A bulky piece of railroad equipment which is no longer in existence is the NS Dash 8-40C. Norfolk Southern Corp had order 48+ of these locomotive between 1990-1992 to eventually replace the older GE C39-8s, C39-8Es, C30-7. and C36-7s. Welp! The NS Dash 8-40C were also notorious later in its not so golden years for it's crappy GE paint job, and their was no love lost between the crews, and this older locomotive. Eventually these older, and last generation conventional cab GE we're retired replace by more modern GE locomotives, and eventually
the Dash 8-40C were scrapped.
Looking back down memory lane at the last generation of GE spartan cab which includes the six axles C series and four axles B series throughout the various of Class 1 Railroads in North America throughout the years.
