The photo depicts a good example of a classical European freight train of those years. Nearly all the cars were two axled. This kind of cars is nowadays rare. The locomotive was of Swiss design and build by Werkspoor in the Netherlands in 1948. Although they were designed for working express trains, most of their lifetime the have worked freight trains, due to the deliverance of more modern locomotives in the early fifties. NS 1000 class was retired in 1982.
